Employment Guarantee Act: Archives The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA 2005), passed on August 23, 2005, is a landmark in the history of social security legislation in India. Though it was included in the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA government, the act could only be passed after sustained campaigning by a number of different groups and individuals concerned with the twin rights to food and work.
