Employment Guarantee Act: Social Monitoring Exercise

A number of grassroots groups in Rajasthan came together in April 2006 under the banner of the "Rozgar Evam Suchna Ka Adhikar Abhiyan" to conduct a large-scale social audit of the EGA in Dungarpur District (Rajasthan), from April 15-26, 2006. The social audit took the form of a 10-day padyatra, involving more than 600 activists from all over the country. While the padyatra uncovered many problems in the implementation of the EGA, it also showed that effective and transparent implementation of the Act is possible.
